Biography

So Young Song is a graphic designer, interdisciplinary artist, and educator whose work moves across disciplinary boundaries. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in the commercial design industry, with a focus on branding and marketing, she helps students communicate effectively with broader audiences through visual language, real-world design standards, and professional creative processes. She finds teaching most rewarding when students grow through constructive feedback, a practice shaped by her experience setting creative direction, mentoring designers, and guiding projects through iteration and revision.

Her creative practice investigates the inextricable relationship between climate change and consumerism through speculative design. She was named the Student Winner in the Speculative Design category of the 2026 Core77 Design Awards for her thesis exhibition, and in 2025, Communication Arts featured her as one of fourteen of the most promising student designers worldwide. Her work has also been exhibited internationally in the United States, Germany, and South Korea.

She hopes to continue exploring speculative design within the Cal Poly community, creating opportunities for students across disciplines to engage with social and environmental issues through research and creative practice.
