Biography
Dr. Rachel Ma joined the Graphic Communication Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, as a faculty member in 2018.
In addition to serving as advisor for Cal Poly's Technical Association of the Graphic Arts (TAGA) student chapter, Dr. Ma teaches courses in printing and packaging technologies, materials for GrC, and project management.
Dr. Ma is passionate about hands-on problem-solving and enjoys helping students transform creative ideas into tangible products through innovative printing and material applications. She values collaboration with students, faculty, and staff and embraces opportunities to learn from diverse perspectives. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes humility, creativity, lifelong learning, and maintaining a positive outlook when facing new challenges.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Ma enjoys volunteering with her church community and campus ministries, including Agape SLO, Cru, Faculty Commons, and International Student Fellowship (ISF). She also enjoys jogging, hiking along California's Central Coast, and spending time with her dog, Merley. One of her favorite local hiking destinations is Point Buchon in Montaña de Oro State Park.
