A GrC Cal Poly alumnus, Dr. Malcolm Keif has taught at the University level since 1990 serving as Professor at University of Central Missouri prior to coming back to Cal Poly in 2001. An active participant in industry conferences and events, He also holds degrees from CSU Long Beach and University of Missouri. Malcolm enjoys using data to derive actionable insights. An active member of the education community, he served as President of the Graphic Communications Education Association (GCEA) in 2018 and was a visiting professor at Munich University (2014, 2021) and Shanghai Printing and Publishing College of USST (2013
Teaching
Malcolm loves to learn – being involved and around learners is exciting for him. A researcher at heart, he believes that Cal Poly offers a unique combination of excellent students, strong faculty and a dynamic environment for learning. He enjoys seeing the success of our students in various settings. He particularly likes working in small groups where he gets the chance to teach and mentor over an extended period of time. He loves to see former students as they develop their careers, gaining remarkable success in the field. Specialty and Passion
Over the years, Malcolm has shifted his passion, as new technologies and methodologies are developed. Recently, he is interested in how data is used and managed in GrC, which includes digital marketing, managing assets, analytics, visualization and various other applications. He has also been involved in the Flexo packaging area and is interested in marking and coding, particularly for tracking, brand-security and anti-counterfeiting.
Highlight of Career
Malcolm recently transitioned to part-time teaching as he explores additional industry involvement. Fun fact, Malcolm has flown in small planes, large planes, helicopters, hot air balloons and even the Goodyear Blimp...but is terrified of heights.
